Fort Worth-based Artist Sedrick Huckaby will create two (2) sculptural benches, each approximately six feet in length, to be placed near the entry of the Highland Hills Recreation Center. Reminiscent of an interior room, each bench will be clad in hand-sculpted and painted tiles to resemble a quilt draped over a sofa. Some of the multicolored "quilt patches" will feature portraits of people of different ages and genders that will be relatable to the community while not naming anyone specifically. Titled "The Welcome Space," the installation celebrates the African American heritage of community residents. On October 20, 2017, Artist Sedrick Huckaby was placed under a Design Agreement (City Secretary Contract No. 49810). Fort Worth Art Commission (FWAC) Action: On November 13, 2017, the FWAC approved the artist's design for artwork and recommended the artist be placed under an Artwork Commission Agreement.
