SUBJECT:  

Authorize Settlement of the Claims of Craigory Adams and Authorize Execution of Releases and Agreements Necessary to Complete the Settlement (ALL COUNCIL DISTRICTS)
RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the City Council:

1.  Approve the below-described settlement of the referenced claim and authorize payment of a total of $210,000.00 to Criagory Adams and his attorney, David Patin for settlement of possible claims; and

2.  Authorize execution of releases and agreements necessary to complete the settlement..

 
DISCUSSION:

This claim arises out of the accidental shooting of Craigory Adams by a Fort Worth Police Officer on June 23, 2015.  Mr. Adams suffered a gun shot wound to his arm and underwent immediate surgery. Mr. Adams incurred medical bills due to his injuries.  An agreement was reached to settle Mr. Adams claims for $210,000.00, subject to City Council approval.

This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.

The Director of Finance certifies that funds are available in the current operating budget, as appropriated, of the Risk Financing Fund.
