SUBJECT:   Confirm Appointment of Artemio David Avila as a Commissioner on the City of Fort Worth Firefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service Commission to Serve a Three-Year Term Expiring on October 1, 2020 (ALL COUNCIL DISTRICTS)
RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the City Council confirm the appointment of Artemio David Avila as a Commissioner on the City of Fort Worth Firefighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service Commission to serve a three-year term expiring on October 1, 2020.
 
DISCUSSION:

Pursuant to the terms of Texas Local Government Code Section 143.006(b), the Civil Service Commission (Commission) consists of three members appointed by the City Manager and confirmed by the City Council.  The Commissioners serve staggered three-year terms, so that one position expires each year.  The City Manager is requesting confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Artemio David Avila as a member of the Commission.

Native to Southern California, Mr. Avila moved to Fort Worth in October of 2000 when Alcon Laboratories hired him.  During his 17-year tenure in Alcon, David has held a number of positions in Sales, Marketing, Clinical Applications, General Management, and Operations.  Currently, he is the US Head of Clinical Applications.  In 2008, David received his MBA from Texas Christian University.  

Mr. Avila resides in COUNCIL DISTRICT 9.

This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
