DATE: 8/15/2017 REFERENCE NO.: **G-19064 LOG NAME: 20SW TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF FIVE STREETS FOR TEXRAIL PROJECT
CODE: G TYPE: CONSENT PUBLIC HEARING: NO
SUBJECT:   Authorize the Temporary Closure of Rail Road Crossings Along Five Streets for Railroad Crossing Improvements for Phase I of the TexRail Project (COUNCIL DISTRICT 2)

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the City Council authorize the temporary closures of five streets to allow for Phase I development of the TexRail Project.

DISCUSSION:

Archer Western Herzog requests the temporary closure of five streets for Phase I development of the TexRail Project.  TexRail will offer passenger service from southwest Fort Worth to DFW International Airport to include Haltom City, North Richland Hills, Colleyville and Grapevine via Downtown Fort Worth.  This closure request is primarily for safety concerns of the public and workers using heavy equipment to replace concrete paneling, railing and to make drainage and pavement improvements at railroad crossings. The five locations are as follows:

  •      Schwartz Ave, from NE 32nd to NE 33rd, August 16, 2017 - September 17, 2017
  •      Deen Rd, from NE 32nd St to Long Ave, September 4, 2017 – November 25, 2017
  •      Decatur Avenue, at NE 23rd / Samuels, October 1, 2017 – November 25, 2017
  •      NE 29th St, from Hays to Decatur Ave, Nov 13, 2017 - Feb 28, 2018
  •      Decatur Avenue, from NE 31st to Dewey Ave, February 24, 2018 – May 15, 2018

Local businesses will be notified of the closure and detour route and electronic message boards will be in place prior to closures.  Street closures in excess of ten-days require City Council approval.  Transportation & Public Works Traffic Management has reviewed and concurs with this request.

These temporary closures are in COUNCIL DISTRICT 2.

This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
