DISCUSSION:

The City of Fort Worth is requesting 150 new body-worn cameras to help accomplish the goal of supplying all sworn personnel with the Fort Worth Police Department with a body-worn camera device. The goal of this grant is to provide body-worn camera systems to 150 graduating recruits throughout the grant period. The City of Fort Worth Police Department, due to Fort Worth's expansive size, structure, and rapidly growing population, must be trained and properly equipped at all times to respond effectively to varying types of incidences. Graduating recruits immediately join the Patrol Division after field training, and are required to stay in the Patrol Division, on average, for two-to-four years. The key role of the Patrol Division is to act as primary responders providing assistance to the public.  The department utilizes body-worn digital recording devices to help create and ensure accountability, transparency, and security for situations involving citizen contact. It also helps to ensure proper and consistent service is continually provided. Body-worn cameras are proven to be an essential piece of technology for police departments.  Currently, the City of Fort Worth has purchased and deployed approximately 750 body-worn cameras and has uploaded over 120,000 pieces of evidence into its storage system. The use of body-worn cameras is essential to investigating crimes and achieving the goal of maintaining the safety and security of Fort Worth's citizens and officers.

This application is equipment only, therefore, indirect costs do not apply.

This contract will be with a governmental entity, state agency or public institution of higher education: (Office of the Governor).
