It is recommended that the City Council:

1.  Authorize acceptance of a monetary donation of $50,000.00 from the Robert D. and Alma Moreton Foundation for the purpose of purchasing equipment for the Fort Worth Police Department's Digital Forensics Lab;

2.  Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Special Purpose Fund in the amount of $50,000.00 for the purpose of funding the purchase of equipment for the Fort Worth Police Department's Digital Forensics Lab; and

3.  Authorize the purchase of equipment for the Fort Worth Police Department's Digital Forensics Lab.

The purpose of this Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) is to authorize the acceptance of a monetary donation in the amount of $50,000.00 from the Robert D and Alma Moreton Foundation for the purchase of equipment for the Fort Worth Police Department's (FWPD) Digital Forensics Lab.

The Digital Forensic Lab is a support unit of the Fort Worth Police Department and is responsible for examining and processing digital evidence.  The lab processes approximately 700 investigations of digital evidence each year.  This unit's capabilities are instrumental in supporting all Investigative Units within the FWPD and at times external agencies.  The Digital Forensics Unit's work supports and leads to successful prosecution. The donation will assist the Digital Forensics Unit to stay current with advancing technologies and best practices.

This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
