SUBJECT:   Authorize Temporary Closure of W.R. Watt Drive, Burnett-Tandy Drive, Gendy Street, Harley Avenue, Linden Avenue and Lansford Lane for Twenty-Eight Days Beginning January 9, 2017 Through February 5, 2017 and Trinity Park Drive for Ten Days During the 2017 Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show (COUNCIL DISTRICT 7)
RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the City Council approve the request of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show to temporarily close the following streets beginning January 9, 2017 through February 5, 2017:

• W.R. Watt Drive from Trail Drive north to Burnett-Tandy Drive;
• Burnett-Tandy Drive from W.R. Watt Drive west to Gendy Street;
• Gendy Street from Harley Avenue north to Lancaster Avenue;
• Harley Avenue between Gendy Street and Trail Drive;
• Linden Avenue between Trail Drive and cell tower entrance;
• Lansford Lane between Montgomery Street and Gendy Street; and
• Trinity Park Drive from University Drive to Crestline Road

 
DISCUSSION:

The Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show requested the referenced street closures for the 2017 Stock Show. These public streets will be closed for the duration of the event and Trinity Park Drive will be intermittently closed to support livestock preparation needs. This request requires City Council approval since it exceeds the 72-hour time limit for administrative approval as stated in the Traffic Engineering Design Standards and Policy Guidelines (Policy). The Policy was designed to keep the City Council informed of major street closures in the City.

The Transportation and Public Works Department has reviewed and concurs with this request.

The above streets are located in COUNCIL DISTRICT 7, Mapsco 76E.

This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
